EA Netherlands is looking for a new co-director!

If your dream job is to help others do the most good they can while leading a growing organisation, then this might be the opportunity you have been waiting for!

Effective Altruism Netherlands (EAN) is seeking a second director to help us grow our community building work.

About the role

The role is dynamic, and responsibilities will be divided based on individual strengths and preferences. Typical tasks include:

  • Developing and evaluating our strategy
  • Developing and evaluating our programmes and projects
  • Coaching group members and sub-group organisers
  • Preparing and running events
  • Giving talks
  • Management
  • Communications

Work hours are generally flexible, but evening and weekend work is required for certain events, as is international travel. 0.8-1 FTE is the expectation. We have a community co-working space in the centre of Amsterdam, but working from home one or more days a week is also possible.

Who are we looking for?

Many excellent candidates will have some (but not all) of the below characteristics, and we encourage you to apply even if you do not have all of the characteristics listed. You’ve probably heard the following statistic: men apply for a job when they meet only 60% of the qualifications, but women apply only if they meet 100% of them. We don’t want this to happen!

With this in mind, we expect a successful candidate to:

  • Be familiar with and interested in the ideas of effective altruism
  • Be able to communicate these ideas clearly
  • Speak Dutch and English fluently
  • Be able to work independently in a results-oriented and structured way
  • Be keen to prototype new ideas or projects, and iterate quickly
  • Be able to work in a team in a reliable, constructive, and respectful way
  • See the big picture, think strategically, and prioritise accordingly

Compensation

The successful candidate will be an employee of EA Netherlands with a one year contract. They will be funded via a Community Building Grant from the Centre for Effective Altruism. The grant for their salary (for 1 FTE) will be between EUR 65,000 and 72,000 (adjusted based on cost of living, with flexibility for exceptional candidates). This will equate to a max gross salary of approx. EUR 58,000. Please note, this is subject to exchange rates as the grant amount is denominated in USD. Other benefits include 25 days’ paid leave per year, plus bank holidays, and a EUR 2,000 personal development budget.
