This role is on our board because we think it is an unusually effective way to spend a career. How we reason about it

Why this is on the board

GiveDirectly turned cash transfers into one of the best-researched forms of aid; this role determines whether economists, journalists and fintech platforms pass that evidence on to donors with a lot of money to allocate. You are not shifting your own budget but other people's — and according to the vacancy with less than €100,000 in paid partnerships, so purely on powers of persuasion.

About the role

GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty across 15 countries since 2011. We believe cash transfers are one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid, with the research to back it up. Our work has been covered by The Economist , NPR , TED , and The Washington Post . We are one of Time100's Most Influential Companies of 2026.

What do you make of this?

The board is still in beta, so this is exactly the moment to say what you think. A vacancy we have missed, a judgement you do not share, something that does not work — all of it helps.
