This role is on our board because we think it is an unusually effective way to spend a career. How we reason about it

This board is still in beta. The reason below is our judgement — tell us if you think we have it wrong. Give feedback
Why this is on the board
Note: this is not a vacancy but an ongoing grant scheme from Coefficient Giving, formerly Open Philanthropy, one of the largest funders of work on major global risks. The leverage lies in multiplication: anyone who uses such a grant to organise a course, fellowship or conference helps dozens of people direct their careers towards problems such as pandemic prevention. How many participants actually do so is hard to measure.
About the role
Grants funding programmes and events across effective altruism, global catastrophic risks, biosecurity, forecasting, and adjacent areas. - Supports fellowships, internships, residencies, visitor programmes, and online or in-person courses. - Supports conferences, seminars, workshops, and retreats with varied aims and audiences. - Open to organisations and individuals running or hosting such programmes and events. - Rolling applications; decisions typically made within three months.

What do you make of this?
The board is still in beta, so this is exactly the moment to say what you think. A vacancy we have missed, a judgement you do not share, something that does not work — all of it helps.
