Senior Software Engineer (Fundraising) — Remote

GiveDirectlyRemoteGlobal health and wellbeingGlobal health and infectious diseaseSoftware engineering

This role is on our board because we think it is an unusually effective way to spend a career. How we reason about it

Free to leave the Netherlands? Look at 80,000 Hours, Probably Good and EA Opportunities first — the strongest opportunities are there. Why we say this

This board is still in beta. The reason below is our judgement — tell us if you think we have it wrong. Give feedback

Why this is on the board

GiveDirectly gives money without conditions directly to people in extreme poverty, and every donation first passes through the systems that you, as one of the two fundraising engineers, build and maintain. If those systems falter on the busiest donation days, such as Giving Tuesday or the end of December, donations do not come in and less money reaches recipients.

About the role

GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty across 15 countries since 2011. We believe cash transfers are one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid, with the research to back it up. Our work has been covered by The Economist , NPR , TED , and The Washington Post . We are one of Time100’s Most Influential Companies of 2026.

What do you make of this?

The board is still in beta, so this is exactly the moment to say what you think. A vacancy we have missed, a judgement you do not share, something that does not work — all of it helps.
