This role is on our board because we think it is an unusually effective way to spend a career. How we reason about it
Free to leave the Netherlands? Look at 80,000 Hours, Probably Good and EA Opportunities first — the strongest opportunities are there. Why we say this
This board is still in beta. The reason below is our judgement — tell us if you think we have it wrong. Give feedback
Why this is on the board
Whether a language model does what people expect of it can only be established with tests that are sound and that someone else can repeat. As a research engineer you build those tests: first for Aithos's researchers, and, through published code, also for teams elsewhere working on AI safety who build their own research on them.
About the role
Lead engineering for reproducible LLM evaluations, benchmarks, and experiment infrastructure for AI values and multi-agent research.

What do you make of this?
The board is still in beta, so this is exactly the moment to say what you think. A vacancy we have missed, a judgement you do not share, something that does not work — all of it helps.

Start with our free course: about 100 minutes in six short units, at your own pace, with no sign-up. To go further, apply for the EA Fellowship: five weeks of reading and discussion in a small group. Also free, but selective.
